by A. J. Carter
Sometimes, taking a chance pays off.
Chris Botta, the New York Islander vice president for communications, didn’t know what he’d get when he asked the ad agency blumenfeld + fleming to pitch the team’s account. “I figured it would be hit or miss,” Botta said. “My hunch was that when they made their pitch, we were all going to be looking at each other like, ‘Oh, boy, you know, this is not going to work,’ or that they might give us stuff that really opened our eyes.”
Sunny outlook as new business rises in the east
by Adina Genn
It’s a concept that surely occurs to most executives at some point: Forgo the big city, the office politics and those time-consuming meetings and open up shop as far east as possible, with pristine views of the Atlantic and farmland, where the mind is free and inspiration can do its thing.
That’s been part of the game plan for Lynn Blumenfeld and Jill Fleming, two advertising veterans who in 2001 opened their Montauk-based agency, blumenfeld + fleming.
Yes, the setting is exquisite, said Blumenfeld, a copywriter who is prone to long walks on the beach after putting together a client pitch. “But I never worked this hard on Madison Avenue,” she said.

First, you’ll need to do your homework.

Working : blumenfeld + fleming- October 2003
by Janis Hewitt
They do it in the car, they do it on the beach. They even do it on walks in the woods and on the Hampton Jitney. Jill Fleming and Lynn Blumenfeld met through a mutual friend and got married, sort of. The partnership they formed when they created blumenfeld + fleming, an ad advertising agency is business in nature. But the dynamic between them is that of a married couple, said Ms. Fleming. And wherever they are, they brainstorm to come up with a new slogan or at design to catch a buyer’s eye.
